The Lincoln Memorial

Last weekend, Margaret Hurst and I conducted a workshop in Washington, DC. We had a warm-ish night on Saturday, so decided to take the group for a little night drawing at the Lincoln Memorial.

I was there more to teach than to do my own art, but when I saw Mr. Lincoln glowing in the night, I had to make a few little drawings. The memorial was glowing in the spotlights and I couldn’t believe it – it was pink. PINK!! So beautiful. Abraham Lincoln was looking down over us all, and, in my mind, he was asking all Americans to do the right thing with the USA, the country he saved from splitting up about 150 years ago.
Seeing the memorial at night like that was a very moving experience. I’m so glad to have had it, and wanted to share my thumbnails here. What a lovely memory.
