In the wake of the recent events in Japan, my fellow Studio 1482 members and I have decided to create a fundraising campaign. My piece, Hope, depicts the white crane, symbol of happiness in Japan, and an intermediary between heaven and earth. I’ve used it to symbolize a prayer from the Japanese people to the world, and as a symbol of a brighter future in the midst of uncertainty. The crane flies in front of the Japanese garden lantern. The light from the lantern is a guide home, both literally and symbolically.
